Break Chronicles: Day Seven - Four Days to Go

Image
It is day seven of winter break, and I have four more days before it is time to report back to work for the rest of the 2023-2024 school year. I am sitting here, at 3:56 am, writing the second iteration of this post to try to analyze what is going on in my brain and body after an insomnia night. I get these every so often, and so I am not all that surprised that it happened after Mexican food and arranging a visit with a friend from junior high all the way up to now. Add in the full moon, and of course I am waking up over and over again! I am starting to get into the holiday funk that happens to me sometimes. I start to feel squirmy because there are things that I want to get done but can't because those things are there instead of being here. In addition, I want to play with all my Mom's crafting toys, but I am scared to because they are her toys and not my own. I know that she would be fine with me using the stamps and the punches and the dies and all that, but I feel like I ...

Preparing a Presentation and Social Media Woes...

Well, somehow I have figured out how to get one of my social media accounts completely locked to me, and I am so very frustrated with it all! I can't seem to figure out what I have done and why they cannot reach me via email and my cell phone. I am very frustrated, but resigned to the fact that I cannot reach this account through usual means. Apparently, I changed my password several months ago but did not update the thing in my password cache, so I am hoist by my own petard! Alas, this means that I cannot like the banal posts of my friends and family members, and I am bereft. (Sorry, channeling Shakespeare there for a moment...) So, I have spent an embarrassing amount of time on this situation this morning. I am beyond frustrated with it and with myself as my to-do list continues to grow, and nothing is getting checked off. I am also in the throes of hormones and so much yuck, so there you go. Anyway, I need to get started on the things that have to be done today. I have to finish...

Wednesday - Open House Night and Choir

Image
It is Wednesday, so I get to write about anything that comes into my mind. Today, I am getting ready for Open House (12-hour day) and then choir practice after that. I am already tired but tomorrow's level will be so much more. I am going in late because I was recently told that I can no longer use flex time to accommodate my Wednesday evening job. So, if I have to use my personal time because we have to be here late on evenings when I have to be at another job, then I will only work the hours that I am scheduled. That means that I will not go in early today. I also will not go in early tomorrow. I may be late on Friday as well. There is a phrase going around right now that is challenging me, but that is pretty relevant to how I am feeling about things - "quiet quitting." First of all, I do not like the phrase because I do not think that it accurately reflects what it means. It means that people are only working the hours that they are paid for and are only doing things o...

Random Blathering of Someone Getting Older By the Minute

This blog post has already started once...been found lacking...and is now being reformed into something less blah. I am exhausted and my sleep patterns are just plain old messed up. I woke up at 12:38 this morning (I checked instead of trying to pretend that I could just go back to sleep) and was able to get back into some light sleep after that time, but I did not seem to go into a deep sleep cycle. I heard some creaking from upstairs, but no yelling, chanting, or demonic exorcism, so I guess it was a good night for them as well. (I contacted a realtor this week to let her know that I would start house hunting in earnest after OCMT.) When my light went off at 3:50am, I was not ready to get out of bed, so I set an alarm on my Kindle and then decided that I was ready to get up before the alarm when off. That was a nice feeling of being ready - it's been missing lately - feeling ready. I missed a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, but no one came to get me for the meeting, so I guess it...

The Art of Blame

This is a rant. It is a post that is influenced by my current illness, probably affected by the storm going on outside, and my levels of frustration with the world outside my front door. No worries - I'm going to the doctor this morning, so things should start to get better soon. Less rant-y, more music therapy centered again. Read on with CAUTION! A friend of mine posted a letter from a teacher on one of my social media feeds yesterday. As I read it, I found myself getting more and more frustrated with the opinions shared all over my posts. Opinions are simply that - OPINIONS. Isn't it interesting how little actual real information is ever shared? Anyway, the letter that was posted stated that the reason kids are having so many problems in schools is because of bad parenting. Opinion. The one thing that I got out of the post was that everyone seems eager to blame someone else for the woes of society. "Can't blame me that my students are out of control in my cl...

Just a Sunday

Today and next week will just have regular posts. I'm not going to pack my current book and will have various obligations on these Sundays, so I'm taking a break from all things deep thinking (courtesy of Mercedes Pavlicevic). Posts from the next several days may be a bit spotty since I will be hovering over this country of mine and in places where the wi-fi is turned off when Dad goes to bed or with a sister that does not have the same relationship with technology that I do. Just wanted folks to know. So, what is happening on this Sunday and Christmas Eve? My to-do list is growing - taking care of the cat for her vacation from me, moving and watering my lone plant, finishing my packing, going to Walmart for some extra yarn, finding the travel backpack, organizing the electronics and the cords that go along with them, checking in for the flight, leading worship services (one in the morning and one at night - just had a thought - I don't have to play piano at all today!!...
