Feeling the Health Return

Image
This morning, I awoke at my normal time - a bit before 4am - when my alarm light clicked on. I dozed a bit before making myself come to full consciousness. When I did wake up, I noticed that I was actually feeling better. In the past week, I have had a headache, chills, and a really bad cough in the early mornings. I've had lots of interrupted nights with difficulty sleeping and waking up with fevers.  None of these things happened this morning. It took 30 minutes before my first coughing fit happened this morning. I am happy that things are finally working to curb all of this ick. I am hoping this will continue through the next week as I am on break. So, my goal for today is to remember that I am still not 100% better, but I am about 65% better than I was a couple of days ago, and to use my energy accordingly. My desk chair broke yesterday. The welded supports in the back sheared off - I do not know how to weld, so the chair is a goner. I was trying to remember how long it l...

Being Internship Supervisor: Review Internship and Revise As Needed

Image
Three days ago, I said, "Farewell" to intern #33 and now I am getting ready for intern #35 who will start in 10 days. Intern #34 is still going strong at the facility and will be around until October, but now is a perfect time to review #33's time with me and make some changes for #35. #34 is stuck with the revisions that I made after #32 - that's just the way this goes. So, it is time to sit down and make some revisions to all of my internship documents. I will start with the Internship Handbook - this is facility-specifc, though I guess I could make a more general version to share with others...hmm. Tangent - need to focus. The first part that I look at is the assignment list. These assignments have changed pretty significantly over the years that I have been an internship director, but I feel that the changes reflect things that I need to know about in my professional role. I am sure that there are other things I could include in my assignments - for example, I do ...

Time to Freak Out the Cat...The Suitcase is Leaving the House...

Yesterday's Presentation This is day two of the Midwestern Region conference , and I am about to stress the cat out more than usual because I am taking my suitcase with me. I'll be leading a 3-hour Make and Take continuing music therapy education this morning, and I have to have lots of stuff in order to get these projects going and done. LOTS...OF...STUFF. Conference time is different from regular time, and I think it truly exists out of the regular space-time continuum. I'm exhausted and only got about 3 hours of sleep last night - this is typical for me at conference time - nerves and lack of sleep tend to make me less effective or less coordinated or something. I'm currently feeling lots of self-imposed nerves because of this new adventure - sharing things that I love with people who have paid the region money to learn from me. (To be completely honest, these are the same types of twinges that I feel whenever I release any of my ideas into the wild - whether ...
