Another Late Day?? Let's Talk About the Mundane Tasks of a Music Therapist at My Job

I was unable to resist the itch yesterday and left around 6:15am instead of waiting until 6:30. Today, I didn't even open my eyes until 25 minutes after my alarm light turned on (I use a light instead of an audible alarm because I get startled by sounds in not good ways to start your day...). I took my shower, and then started my morning routine. It is now 5:30am. I will try my best to stay where I am until it is 6:30, but the itch is happening... Anyway, let's make this more about music therapy than about my current anxious itch. I am in the midst of developing my October theme digital offering for my clients. I will be taking a couple of days off for the AMTA National Conference (offered virtually) in October, so I want to have a file ready for those two days. The theme is Bullying, and I started off by finding some YouTube resources for my clients to access. I have a couple of original songs that need to be recorded, but I do not have a moment to myself these days, so I am r...

I Don't Want To Go!

Ugh. I have to go to work today and do music therapy.  Most of the time, this is a good thing, but I'm just not really feeling it right now. This is probably due to several things. First, no one in my family is having to work right now - they get to hang around the pool, go to the beach, and go do touristy things whenever they want. Second, it is hot and sunny here. I don't do very well on hot, sunny days. The humidity just wears me out and makes me hurt everywhere, so I don't look forward to heat advisories and high humidity. Third, I am tired. Just plain old tired. There is no good reason, but I'm tired. So, today it is taking an effort to get myself up and out the door. I will be fine once I get started, but I'm not getting started easily. The day started before my alarm light went off. (I can't use an alarm clock because they startle me too much. Imagine every day starting with a startle reflex. It's not pretty, and the cat hates when I bolt out of...

Tardy. Not Good For Me.

Yesterday, I awoke at 5:50am - two hours later than I usually awaken. Needless to say, I started the day in panic mode and had to get going in a rush to get to work when I wanted to get to work. I am usually leaving for work at 5:50 am, not just waking up. I made it to work when I wanted to get there and was able to go through the rest of the day without feeling that panic that usually sticks around me when I am late for something...anything... For me, tardiness is an unforgivable curse in myself. I am not as insisting about it in others as I am in myself. I cannot abide being late. That one guest that shows up at the time on the invitation when you are still getting ready for the party? Yep. That's me. I have learned over the years that it is better for the hostess if I stay in the car and wait until I can see another guest than to ring the doorbell at 6:59 by myself. Isn't it interesting how some ideas and expectations are difficult to tolerate in yourself? I can't ab...

Late Day

This post is brought to you courtesy of an illness of some sort. Does anyone know what kind of illness involves a fever, a strange cough, a general feeling of ick, but NOTHING else! No runny nose. No green mucous. No chills. I'm hoping it's the virus that the pastor had a couple of weeks ago - his started in his chest, moved up into his nose, and then left through the top of his head. I hope mine is that as well, but I need some more information from him about his symptoms in order to decide if it is the same germ. This comes at the worst possible time (as these things often do) as I have some work to do before I can get my living quarters ready to recuperate from ACL surgery in about a month. I need to make meals for the two weeks that I will be home bound. I also need to clear things out and catch up on the housework. During all that time, I need to figure out bus schedules, make sure that the cat has food and litter, and coordinate medical equipment such as ice water circu...
