I'm Great, But No One Knows It...

Way back, in my youth, I used to sing a song called "We're Great But No One Knows It!" It was a good affirmation song, and we used to sing it loudly when things were difficult. During the last trip I took, my mom and I were watching an old movie, and the song appeared. I didn't know the origin of the song, other than that I had learned it at camp, and here it was!!

The movie was My Sister Eileen. That is really not all that relevant to this post, but it is always interesting to find where songs come from...

Anyway, I am in my job-hunting mode right now, and it is not very positive. I am sending out resumes and all that stuff, but no one has contacted me yet. I am trying to figure out how to find funds for medical expenses and am to the point where I am going to have to use my credit cards - which is something I do NOT want to do! It is ridiculous that someone has to use credit in order to get insurance, but I am hoping that I will be able to qualify for some sort of healthcare credit soon. Open enrollment starts on November 1st, so there's that. I need to talk to an insurance broker to see what my options are before that point. Something else to worry about, I guess.

The song itself is becoming my theme for this season of my life.

I would be good at all sorts of jobs, but it is sometimes difficult for AI systems or HR folks to see the benefit behind my resume. I need to start writing cover letters and do all sorts of other things to stand out. I am trying to send out at least one application per day to a variety of jobs, but it is somewhat difficult to keep going.

Here's how the song is fitting in...

The lyrics that I learned were, "we're great but no one knows it, no one knows it so far. Someday they'll realize how wonderful we are. They'll look at us and point at us and then they'll shout 'hooray!' We're great but no one knows it, but they will someday!"

The thing that I have to remember in all of this is that I am great. I am good at what I do and what I want to do. I just need to convince others of this while I am doing everything else that comes with being a human being.

I have a plumber coming to flush my water heater and tell me that they can replace my downstairs toilet for a couple of thousand dollars. That always makes me laugh because I do not have the money that is needed for this. I have to clear spaces so the plumber can get where the water things are located. That will happen at some point today - I don't know when. That's a good thing and a bad thing because I could get a call in about an hour saying that they are on their way or I could be waiting until 4pm. You never know with this company.

Time to snake the shower drain, clean behind the toilets, and make sure that the plumber can walk to all the places that will need to be evaluated.

I'm great, but no one knows it. They will someday...
