I have an idea that has been approved for CMTEs through CBMT, and I am ready to start talking about it!

It’s time for camp – musictherapywork.com’s Creativity Camp, that is!

Join us on July 18th and 19th to create music therapy visual aids, network with other music therapists, students, and interns, and to explore ways that visual aids enhance what we bring to sessions with our clients.

 


Continuing Music Therapy Education Information

www.musictherapyworks.com offers synchronous (live presentations) and asynchronous (recorded presentations) on topics relevant to music therapists. The course information is available for music therapists after payment is received. Participants have 90 days from time of the symposium. Successful completion of the course includes the completion of the course evaluation.

Course Event: Creativity Camp by musictherapyworks.com

When:  July 18, 2026 and July 19, 2026 – from 2pm-6pm each day (central daylight time)

What: Creativity Camp by musictherapyworks.com will include information and resources for music therapists who use visual aids with clients in music therapy treatment. Participants will be guided through the creation of four clinically-tested, goal-driven products to use with clients. Participants have the choice of accessing materials in a digital format or purchasing a kit of physical materials to use during the session for an additional cost.

Learning Objectives:

1.       Learners will design clinical supplemental materials to enhance music therapy interactions with clients (CBMT Board Domains – 31, 32, 36).

2.       Learners will discuss modifications to projects with regard to specific clients in treatment, adapting the projects to assist specific clients in achieving treatment goals (CBMT Board Domains – 29, 30, 36).

3.       Learners will complete 4 projects to use with clients in music therapy sessions (CBMT Board Domain – 29),

Prerequisites:

This course is designed for board certified music therapists but is open to all interested parties. A current CBMT number is required for all therapists seeking credit from the Certification Board for Music Therapists.

Day Two – July 19, 2026

·         00:00 – Introduction and Details on Course Requirements

·         1:00 – Break

·         1:10 – Mad-Libs or Monster Face creation

·         2:00 – Break

·         2:10 – Project Completion and Discussion – Sharing and conversation about adaptations to accommodate client-specific needs and requirements

·         3:40 – Conclusions and Review of Course Requirements – 4:30

Number of CMTEs Offered: 8

Course Cost: $80.00 – includes digital files and task analyses for each project as well as access to all recordings for 90 days.

$20.00 – No CMTEs – includes digital files and task analyses for each project as well as access to all recordings for 90 days – no certificate will be issued.

Add-on Cost - $40.00 – Project kit – includes printed copies of all materials used during the session, applicable Velcro and other materials to complete four projects – this cost is in addition to the CMTE cost and does not include access to recordings unless purchased with CMTEs or No CMTE option.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

No refunds will be offered after information on accessing the modules  is sent to the participant. This information will be sent 1 week prior to the start of Creativity Camp.

Monthly Music Therapy Meets through www.musictherapyworks.com is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 8 Continuing Music Therapy Education Credits. This course included 0 credits regarding ethics.

Songwriting Sunday: Client Goals First and Foremost

When I am writing music, I tend to do one of two things. I either start with a specific client in mind and write for that client's goals and objectives, or I start with an idea and let the idea grow regardless of the clients that I am serving at the time. I spend time with lots of hypothetical clients - thinking about the vast number of clients and their unique goals as I develop songs and therapeutic music experiences (TMEs). Today, though, I would like to start with the first focus - that of a specific client and his or her or their goals. Currently, I am sharing a wall with a class of students who are experiencing lots of life and school changes. Two students have transferred from residential care to home care and are now day students. One student is brand new to the classroom. Another student recently left the class. All of these changes have shifted the dynamics in the classroom group, and old behaviors of concern have reemerged as well as finding new behaviors to contribute. ...

Dear AMTA

Dear American Music Therapy Association: I am debating long and hard about remaining in this relationship. I have been in this relationship since college, and this is not a decision that I am taking lightly or without great cost.  I am not happy with what you are bringing to this relationship. Now, I have been a selfish partner over the past several years - mainly because I am not feeling like we share a common mission anymore. It is easy for me to place the blame on you, but I know that this is not all on me. I have tried to be invested in communication and support and understanding, but everyone comes to a time where enough is enough.
