Keep Moving Forward

A Disney movie that I love is Meet the Robinsons. If you are not familiar with it, it is about science and experimentation and finding a family. It is a movie that is creative and not just a remake of something that Disney has already done (I am VERY anti-live action remakes of cartoon classics!). Throughout the movie, the theme of Keep Moving Forward comes up again and again, and is finally echoed in a quotation from Walt Disney (no date to attribution) -

“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

Curiosity is something that comes and goes for me. At the moment, I am curious about the world of music therapy beyond my role, but I am not feeling able to engage outside the four walls where I do music therapy. I have dreams for what I want to do, but limited knowledge of how to get there. I am still curious about it all.

What do you do as a music therapist? What led you to the profession? If you have moved to something new, why did that happen? If you are a vintage music therapist like me, what kept you in the world of music therapy? What do you do in a typical day in your professional life? What do you still want to know about music therapy?

I think it is important to talk about these things with other music therapists, and that is the role that I want to play in this profession moving forward. I want to know and I want to share, and I want to facilitate community within our numbers. I want to know where your challenges are and how I can help you figure them out. Curiosity is leading me into my future, and I cannot wait to see what comes next for me and for all of you!

Right now, I am starting to promote a clinical application conference for those of us who work with adolescents. I have my list of things to do, but you are hearing it here for the first time - if you work with adolescents, then reserve Saturday, August 8, 2026 for our first, long conference. CMTEs will be available, and registration will open in June, but if you are interested in sharing your expertise, then I encourage you to submit a presentation proposal here

Okay. Now my thoughts are starting to tumble over themselves. I have about 45 minutes before I have a peer supervision meeting via Zoom, and that is pretty exciting as well. I have something to report to my peer about moving forward on my idea of having a conference dedicated to working with adolescents.

Now, I get to make some visuals for this conference and the call for presentations and all that stuff! That is exciting for me because I love graphic arts. So, keep an eye on this space and all of my socials for information about how I keep moving forward!
