What Day is It??

I have officially entered the time of the year where it is difficult to tell what day it is on any given day. I have to look at my calendar to see what I will be doing today. As a result, I wake up a bit confused each and every morning. Today will include a change in my schedule - most of my clients from my first group will be gone for the morning to compete in the local Job Olympics. So, I will have an extra hour to sit and contemplate things - or take stuff to my car - that would be a better use of that extra time.

I have so much stuff, and I have so little motivation to organize it into useable systems. Just can't get myself to take control of the stuff yet. I am hoping that I will find that motivation before I am finished with stuff, but that's not really happening - yet. I have set up some shelves, and more are on the way for the library. 

I am a hoarder. I don't think it is pathological - yet - but it could easily become that way. I have difficulty getting rid of just about anything because I want to use stuff. I see potential in just about everything. The problem is that I don't feel like I have the time to make all the things that I envision. Maybe that will be a priority in July - making things and using things up.

I am making a start with that. My #The100DayChallenge for this year is to NOT buy any more crafting stuff (with the exclusion of the tape runner refills that I need to make my books). I made something for a swap in one of my papercrafting groups. I find out who I get to send things to today. I will send stuff this weekend and then wait for my match to send me some stuff. It is fun to send stuff to random strangers and get stuff back. I hope that I get some of the same stuff that I send - bright colors and not very vintage-y.

I watch lots of creators who like old stuff and making new things look old. I am not that type of papercrafter. I like bright colors and clean lines rather than deckle edges and aging ink. I have some old books that I could use to make those types of things, but I just don't like that aesthetic. This weekend will be another crafting weekend. I want to make some more stuff out of the stuff I already have, but I need someone to take the stuff that I am making so it will move out of this hoarding house!!

Okay, the calendar says that it is Thursday, so I will get ready for my Thursday. See you soon.

Songwriting Sunday: Client Goals First and Foremost

When I am writing music, I tend to do one of two things. I either start with a specific client in mind and write for that client's goals and objectives, or I start with an idea and let the idea grow regardless of the clients that I am serving at the time. I spend time with lots of hypothetical clients - thinking about the vast number of clients and their unique goals as I develop songs and therapeutic music experiences (TMEs). Today, though, I would like to start with the first focus - that of a specific client and his or her or their goals. Currently, I am sharing a wall with a class of students who are experiencing lots of life and school changes. Two students have transferred from residential care to home care and are now day students. One student is brand new to the classroom. Another student recently left the class. Dear AMTA

Dear American Music Therapy Association: I am debating long and hard about remaining in this relationship. I have been in this relationship since college, and this is not a decision that I am taking lightly or without great cost.  I am not happy with what you are bringing to this relationship. Now, I have been a selfish partner over the past several years - mainly because I am not feeling like we share a common mission anymore. It is easy for me to place the blame on you, but I know that this is not all on me. I have tried to be invested in communication and support and understanding, but everyone comes to a time where enough is enough.
