The End of Something and the Start of Something Else
It is December 31, the last day of the year, the last day of my trip, and the day before the rest of my break. I am currently sitting on the bed in my sister's old room, blogging at 5:22am because my sister has a medical test to get to by 7:30am, and I have to be ready to go to the airport when she is finished. The bed is still made (I have to strip the sheets before I leave), I am showered, and my mother is in her computer room watching her favorite YouTuber (not me) and learning about making more Barbie miniatures (her current hobby). The cat came in and squeaked at me about 30 minutes ago, and this is really the best start to the last day of the year that I can imagine, so there you go!
My word for this year was Cultivate. I tried to grow, develop, bloom, and nurture myself and my ideas. I did pretty well, I think. I actually started my business in a formal manner. Did I complete ANY of the tasks that I established in the first bloom of 2025? Absolutely not, except for "use the library." I did do that. Oh, I also saved a bit of money (not much since I had to pay a large deductible and co-insurance amounts for my surgery and cancer treatment). I read 121 books (that I kept track of) in the past 365 days - there were more that I did not register, but I am keeping track now.
My word for this next year is Metamorphosis. This word encapsulates how I am feeling about my future and the changes that are going to happen in July. It is time for another life change, and this one is going to be a biggie, I can tell!
While making goals for the new year tends to lead me to feelings of complete failure and utter shame, making quests is something that I find a bit more fun. At one point, I made a map. I wonder where that is...
This year's major quest is to get my CMTE side of the business up and running. It will start with a symposium focused on adolescents in music therapy treatment in late January and will continue with a larger symposium in late July or early August. I hope to make this an annual thing through my business to generate a salary for myself so I can pay for medical insurance. Ugh. All the things that you have to figure out when you are going to be mainly retired but still have doctors and medications to use. This whole healthcare thing is going to take lots of attention to figure out.
I have taken most of the steps that I need to take to make these symposia realities. All I have to do is pay my money and then start advertising. I figure I need about 30 people to cover the costs of the entire process before I start reinvesting in my business. Now, I have to figure out how to do estimated tax payments and all that sort of stuff so I can do this right.
Metamorphosis - moving from one state to another.
It is time to go.
