Monday Comes With a Surprise!

Oh, well, this is awkward. The surprise is for me, not for you, though you could go to this link to download a previously released free resource in my TPT store... Surprise??

Anyway, my sister and mother are taking me somewhere. I had to fish out a school id that identified me as "teacher," and am now waiting to see what we are going to be doing. My sister has a medical issue going on, so she just called to say that we would start our adventure after she goes to urgent care to get medication for her issue. I am hoping that it will be a good time. I've been warned that we are going to be walking lots and will need to have layers, so I know we are going outdoors. I have some suspicions, but I am not really worried about it. I know that my Sister and Mom will have thought of something pretty good for me.

We will see what it is and go through it all! I'll reveal more tomorrow about the surprise.

Anyway, I am now sitting in my guest room, in my pjs, at what is 9:38 am at my home (not the right time here, though). This feels a bit too decadent for words, and I am relaxed. I have today and tomorrow before I head back to the colder climes and structure of my house. After that, I have four days at home before returning to work for a professional development day and then back to the work routine for six months!

I am definitely looking forward to whatever comes my way next. I will be running a symposium in late January and working with the Online Conference for Music Therapy in early February, so things are going to be happening around my house and life for a bit of time. I enjoy having projects and being busy, so this is a good state to be in. I also have to get some business accounts established with a bit of seed money, so that is something to get done before I go back to work...

My to-do list is growing. My not-to-do list is also growing.

Time to get started on this day. We will see what goes on and how things progress. More details tomorrow...

Songwriting Sunday: Client Goals First and Foremost

When I am writing music, I tend to do one of two things. I either start with a specific client in mind and write for that client's goals and objectives, or I start with an idea and let the idea grow regardless of the clients that I am serving at the time. I spend time with lots of hypothetical clients - thinking about the vast number of clients and their unique goals as I develop songs and therapeutic music experiences (TMEs). Today, though, I would like to start with the first focus - that of a specific client and his or her or their goals. Currently, I am sharing a wall with a class of students who are experiencing lots of life and school changes. Two students have transferred from residential care to home care and are now day students. One student is brand new to the classroom. Another student recently left the class. All of these changes have shifted the dynamics in the classroom group, and old behaviors of concern have reemerged as well as finding new behaviors to contribute. ...

Dear AMTA

Dear American Music Therapy Association: I am debating long and hard about remaining in this relationship. I have been in this relationship since college, and this is not a decision that I am taking lightly or without great cost.  I am not happy with what you are bringing to this relationship. Now, I have been a selfish partner over the past several years - mainly because I am not feeling like we share a common mission anymore. It is easy for me to place the blame on you, but I know that this is not all on me. I have tried to be invested in communication and support and understanding, but everyone comes to a time where enough is enough.
