Music Therapist on Break - Day One
And, here we are - FINALLY! The first day of my break. It stormed yesterday afternoon - lots of rain and thunder while a front rolled through the area. Rain came in bits and spurts but the thunder was pretty continuous there for a while. I am hoping that the storm will have decreased the heat and humidity, but I sincerely doubt that it did. Yeah - a quick look at my weather app shows that we have 88% humidity at the moment with a forecasted temperature of 91 (before the heat index kicks in). The storms did not help at all, but that's okay. It is what summer is like out here. I miss the dry heat of California.
No more dwelling on that thought. Let's talk a bit more about what this break will be for me.
I am going on an extended break because I am having another bowel resection on Monday. A part of my gut is growing things that it shouldn't, so it has to be removed. My mother is arriving tomorrow to help me out during my recovery. I have two days to get my house in order and to prepare myself for this next medical adventure.
I am trying to arrange things to do while I am recovering. I have a crochet project started and some children's books on order, so there are things to work on that will not require heavy lifting. I have many different project ideas at the moment. I hope I will be able to get to some of them in the next two weeks.
The sessions for this week were surprisingly calm - not what I expected, but definitely a welcome change.
I have been watching cheesy Hallmark mysteries for the last two days. They are very funny, and I enjoy the way things are predictable. I can usually figure things out pretty quickly with these movies, and I like that. The one I am watching right now has Vivica A. Fox in it - I like her. There are some very pretty people in this movie. Everyone is fake tanned and white toothed. Bronzer everywhere! The bride has a gorgeous dress but I think she needs a longer slip to make it magnificent! There is a wildfire at the winery which is the setting for the wedding. Everyone is a trope - there is the shady henchman lurking in the shadows and making vague threats. There is the goofy best man and the sulky maid of honor who wants to be the bride. The groom's father is lecherous. The bride's stepmother is trying to overcompensate for being a step parent. The sheriff wears too much eyeliner. The sommelier has a secret and needs to confront someone at the wedding. The maid of honor looks pregnant. So many layers. There is something going on with the wine being served - I can't quite figure it all out yet, but I will.
These movies are good background sound for my day. Something that does not require thinking but has something to think about. I might make up a cleaning game based on cheesy movies. Every time someone looks suspicious, I have to put something away...
I bought some children's books from Thriftbooks.com this morning. I am hoping to work on some thematic packets based on these books.
Oh, it is the bride who dies in this one.
I am going to spend my time working on my bedroom and kitchen today. I have lots of boxes in the bedroom that I shoved in there at the end of last month when three family members came to help me through what I thought was going to be the end of this particular medical journey. Turns out, it was just the preview. That's why Mom is returning. They didn't do what they told me they would do last time. So, now they will. At least, they better! I hate preparing for surgery and this will be the third time I have had to prepare in eight months. I want to be done with all of this.
Time to get going with the day. The sun is shining through the leaves of the tree that covers my front yard. I think I might have chili for breakfast this morning. My mind is now wandering into my to-do list and the time that I have left before I have to leave to get my mother at the airport. I have unlimited mileage on the rental car, so I am going to use that to pick up Mom. After that, she will get to drive it!
Oh, this movie is getting more melodramatic. The maid of honor was the groom's psychiatrist for some time. The suspicious henchman is now being alluded to as the killer. He is definitely NOT the killer - because he is dead along with the pastor, of course. It was the wine! Who did it?? You will never know because I am going to leave you now. Bwa-ha-ha!!
It's the first day of break.
