Day Four: A Case of the Yips
I am awake, on this fourth day of my mid-summer break, at the early hour of 3:30 am, attempting to figure out what to write about today. I awoke to find a very complimentary blog post by my friend, Janice. Please check out her blog, especially her journal club posts and her information about how to get CMTEs. I've found these to be very valuable over the years and think that everyone should be paying attention to what Janice has to say. (Hi, Janice!!) The post is making me think a bit about what I write here, so I am going to engage in some random thoughts to figure out several things happening in my life.
Random Thoughtstream One: I'm feeling a bit unsettled this morning. I awoke very early, even for me, and was sucked into a series of thoughts that did not allow me to settle back into sleep. I'm not quite sure what is going on, but I do know that these early mornings and the accompanying unsettling thoughts seem to come more often these days. It is something that I should investigate a bit more before my insurance premiums go up (again!).
Random Thoughtstream Two: I have a webinar this evening about writing a philosophy of music therapy. I decided to put this topic into my intern series because it is a holiday week. I wasn't sure how many folks would want to attend a webinar the night before the fourth, but it seems that most of my current attendees will be present. Maybe this should be part of the regular intern series. Maybe not. We'll see what the interns think.
Random Thoughtstream Three: Today is a day for recording course content for my next big adventure, offering CMTEs to music therapists. I have three of the ten finished, but I want all ten done before I ask for approval from CBMT. These are fun. I am organizing coursework on composition and creativity, and I think I am ready to get into such topics as writing songs based on client goals, and discovering all the goals presented in every therapeutic music experience we offer to our clients. If I really get motivated, I will get a couple of modules finished today. First, however, I need to take a shower, get dressed in my CandC outfit, and finish the powerpoint presentations.
I've learned lots about making presentations through doing this task. Did you know that you can record video directly into the powerpoint presentation? I didn't, but I do now. That one little fact has saved me oodles of time and space on the computer. It is amazing what tools are out there to make us work smarter and NOT harder! I love finding those tools!!
Random Thoughtstream Four: Cake.
Random Thoughtstream Five: The World Congress of Music Therapy is currently happening in Japan. I've been to two World Congresses, one in Washington D.C. and the other in Brisbane, Australia. If you haven't already, check out the website of the World Federation of Music Therapy for details on music therapy from around the world. I heard a rumor that the WFMT may be coming back to the United States next time around (just a rumor, mind you, absolutely NO basis in fact), and I am hoping that is true. I really enjoy being part of the bigger music therapy world. There is so much going on around our globe with our profession that it really makes me consider my small role in this profession. I wish I could have gone to the Congress this year, but it was not to be financially. Maybe in 2020 or 2023...
Random Thoughtstream Six: I am restless during this break. I'm not sure why, but I know that life changes in my family members are a big part of some of my anxiety dreaming and my feelings of wanting to do more with my life. While my immediate family members are going through upheavals (some positive, some not so much), I am just sitting here. I'm not sure what I want to do differently, but there is something out there.
Random Thoughtstream Seven: Get going, already! It is time to start the official day by taking my shower and getting some of my to-do list items finished. I want to finish my current clinic project and get those course modules going. I may also go to Michaels and Hobby Lobby to see what I can get to feed my visual aid making craze. First, however, I have to check my bank balance to see what I can afford...
On that happy note, tomorrow is TME Tuesday! See you then.
