Favorite Things Friday: Scrapbooking Boxes

It's Friday and time to talk about something I have purchased over and over again - Scrapbooking Boxes!

Why is this something I love?

Let me tell you... (but first, let me tell you that I do not get any financial or material compensation for anything I talk about on this blog).

These boxes come in many different colors. I have them in pinkish red, blue, purple, green, and clear. For a color-coder like me, this means that I can use a different color for every type of group that I lead as a therapist. Right now, the blue box contains long-term projects for my older clients and the red boxes contain songbooks. When I was doing itinerant therapy, the clear boxes were mine, the red boxes belonged to Intern #22 and the blue boxes belonged to Intern #23. We could easily keep track of who had what and how to get our own materials off the cart quickly. When I talk to others about using these boxes (or bags), I recommend having a color for each type of population or type of session. For example, all session materials for preschoolers would be in the green boxes. All session materials for elementary aged kids would be in the blue boxes. Easy to access the materials that you need for the sessions that you have in front of you.

The dimensions are pretty good as well - 13" by 13" by 3". They fit most of the sound shape drums out there. I can put 12 pairs of rhythm sticks, 12 triangles, 12 shaker eggs, and a plethora of other materials into one box. I've carted mallets, dry erase boards, and tons of file folder TMEs in these boxes. I've even crammed a bunch of scarves into these boxes (they make a glorious attempt at escape when you open the box - very colorful!).

I adapt these boxes to make them even more functional. Self-adhesive Velcro strips on the lids helps me to attach plastic portfolios and pens and pencils on the lid. I am constantly losing my writing implements, so Velcro provides me with a visual and tactile reminder to store the pens and pencils inside the box so I have them when I need them. The plastic portfolio also provides storage space for documents and marketing materials (because you should ALWAYS have some marketing materials with you - you never know when you will need them).

I am currently trying to figure out a way to attach a strap to these boxes to help with ergonomics. I'm thinking a thick dog leash and some E6000 glue would do the trick, but I'm still in the planning stages.

The best thing about these boxes?

I can fit tons of them into the back of my car and they stay shut. They slide around a bit, but they don't open and send things spilling out.

My favorite thing for this Friday? Scrapbooking boxes. Check them out and see if they would work for you!
