Groundhog Day
It is Groundhog Day here in the states. It's kind of a kitschy holiday that doesn't really have any real significance, but we still get on board with the entire idea. Here is the OFFICIAL website of the Punxsutaney Groundhog Club.
I am not one to spend lavish amounts of time on these holidays, but I do enjoy celebrating Groundhog Day. That's probably because it seems to be quite silly, and I do like silly.
Many years ago, I found a list of piggy-backed songs for Groundhog Day. I have no idea where they came from, but the songs used included Achy Breaky Heart if that gives you an idea of what era we're talking about. I have used many of them over and over again through the years.
On a Google search today, I found the following website - CanTeach: Songs & Poems. This site has a list of lyrics for Groundhog songs - some are piggybacked, some are not. It is a good site for music therapists who want to use music for this "holiday." I'm going to take them and put them into my Groundhog Carol library.
Today I'm going out to sing silly songs with children and adolescents. We will spend some of the time talking about Phil the Groundhog and his prediction for this Winter season. We will sing some silly songs. Then, we will go back into music therapy work as usual!
Happy Groundhog Day!
