Looking for Motivation
It is Saturday morning, and I am in need of some motivation to do some chores that need to be done but that are no fun to do. My desk has been taken over by junk - things that I've just left there that need to be placed in other places. The stove needs to be cleaned and the kitchen needs some reorganization. The bathrooms could use a scrub down as well. I am somewhat disorganized everywhere these days. It is time to get started.
So, what motivates me?
Interestingly enough (at least to me), not music. Pandora is not an option when I need to get things done. I might be able to get some movement going when listening to my preferred music on my iPod, but not for long. I start to think about how I can use the songs that I'm listening to in therapy sessions, I have to go write things down, and then I have an excuse to stop my mundane tasks "for the benefit of my kids." So, nothing distracts me more than music.
I will watch streaming episodes of television shows to keep me in the office area and the kitchen. The bathrooms may have to wait (~sarcasm coming now - Oh that's a TRAGEDY!).
So, my day will be spent in my house, moving things around, throwing things away, and trying to figure out what is no longer necessary to keep in my life. The shredder will get a work out today. I may make some brownies or cake to also keep me motivated. It is amazing how sweet things can keep me going. The kitchen has to be clean before I can bake - once I have baked, I need to have clear space on my desk so I can eat my sweet things. There, instant motivation! Now, I just have to figure out where to start...
Here's the thing.
Where to start? Maybe I should try a spinner system. Set up my spinner boards with the places that need to be addressed and then let fate decide! Maybe pick from a hat? Ooh, that could be a way to get my students to address specific emotional themes - spinners or picking from a hat...
Uh oh.
Now I'm starting to think about TMEs and may not ever get to cleaning. Gotta stop now...
