Make It Monday: Making Time to Be Creative
It is Monday again, and I am sitting here, looking around my messy office space, and wondering what I will write about today.
I didn't make much this weekend, but I did continue working on current projects. I have stitched in the signatures to the winter and turtle books (somewhat crookedly, to be sure - have to disguise/camouflage that in some way) and am starting to put in the signatures to the Christmas book. It is time to decorate books now, so I am going to look around for some turtley things. I already have plenty of winter stuff and Christmas stuff is always easily found.
I did make a shelf. I am a fan of all things Disney, and one of the ways that has manifested is purchasing Doorables. If you don't know what I'm talking about - just look at the photo here. They are small characters in a particular style, and I love them! I had them in a small wooden house that I have had in my home for many years, but it was difficult to see them as they were all crammed together.
I have been wanting a display, but I just could not find what I was looking for. I decided to try to make something to work. I bought some wooden slats and used up some of Mom's leftover glue that she found when she was visiting last year for my cancer surgery. So, I sat down with my glue placemat (I love plastic placemats to protect things when I am crafting) and some tape and started gluing the slats together. It worked well, and you can see some of my collection displayed here.
I did spend lots of time this weekend moving things around my house. All of my storage options were delivered, and that inspired me to start corralling things into different categories. I have already filled much of the storage, but that will not keep me from moving on!
I also added some bulletin boards to the wall directly to my left. I do best when I can see things, so using the walls for storage or reminders is important to my work flow. I bought some cute push pins (the flowers at the bottom of the picture above), and I wanted to use them. I had to glue three of them back together because the tops had popped off the pins. They make me happy when I see them, so that is valuable to me.
I guess I did make more than I thought. I made my work area more functional and visually appealing to me. I made some inroads into sorting stuff, and I made that shelf. The journals are coming along quite nicely. I am not finished, by any means, but other things need to be addressed before I can keep making things.
I am trying my best to include some creativity into my days. I am still not used to the idea that I am not working, so it is something that is still sinking in. I am enjoying not leaving my home, but I am also trying my best to figure out what I am going to do to fill up my time. Creativity is one of the things that helps me feel accomplished, so I want to make time.
Today's schedule includes some of the self-care things that I just did not do yesterday and some creative work after a movie at the theater. A MONDAY MOVIE! I have some projects to finish up that are part of camp this weekend as well as my books to finish up. It will be a good start to day and to the last week before camp. Time to get going...
