Make It Monday: SoulCollage (TM) and a New TPT File

It is Monday, and I have some maker stuff to talk about today. I actually made some things this weekend, so I can discuss them on this Make It Monday!! Hooray!

Let's start off by talking about the new TPT (formerly known as Teachers Pay Teachers) file that I uploaded this weekend. I am getting ready to launch my first sing about theme edition, and this file goes right along with it! Introducing Ocean Rhythm Cards!

I am excited about this resource because it provides me with a bunch of new therapeutic music experience (TME) ideas for use with clients in music therapy sessions. Since I do not have any current clients for music therapy, my brain is going to generic music therapy clients that I might work with in the future. I mean, I don't know who I will work with, but I want to share these ideas with those of you who are working with clients right now.

These cards include twenty-seven pictures from Scrappin Doodles that include sea plants, animals, and humans in both color and black and white! In addition to the pictures, there are labels and rhythms that come along with the file. The way I would use this file is multi-faceted (of course). I have ideas about games to play as well as instrument play to go along with the rhythms. It is priced at $3.00 for the entire file, so check it out!!

I enjoy making these digital files to share with other music therapists at low price points. It is fun to coordinate themes with visuals that support the music that people use in music therapy sessions. This month's focus is sing about the ocean, available soon via the website!

The other thing that I did this weekend was a process called SoulCollage(TM). For three hours yesterday afternoon, I engaged in a workshop designed to introduce us to the SoulCollage(TM) community and practice. Look at the link above for an accurate description of this interesting process.

I am not entirely sure how to describe what I did yesterday. It was primarily focused on giving us the tools that we needed to start making our cards. I made six cards yesterday - the start of my own deck. Now, I am not a big fan of collage crafting, mainly because of the fussy cutting (the technique where you follow the exact edges of pictures and remove all the backgrounds). so this was not my happiest form of papercraft, but I will continue to build my card deck to use in future workshops. I will go back, but I am not entirely sure how to read the cards yet.

I did enjoy the group of women who were in the workshop. There were two art therapists, two art therapy interns, one special educator, one woman who runs an educational farmstead, two art teachers, an artist, and me. It was held at a Creative Therapy center in my town - one that I thought about joining and may still see if they have office space depending on what I find I need in my near future. I enjoy the idea of a center for creative arts therapies where different therapists work through the center. I wonder if there is a need for this type of center in my intended destination. I bet there is... hmmm.

Anyway, the ideas behind SoulCollage(TM) include using the cards to help you find insight into your questions and intentions. This is something that I think we might get into  in further workshops as the one we did yesterday did not delve much into the interpretation part of the cards.

My least favorite part of the session was talking about my cards in the group. I do not often place myself in situations where I am emotionally vulnerable. I also do not like small talk, but it seems to be part of this process, so I did it, even when I was uncomfortable.

The best part of the session was seeing the collages that others put together. We did a gallery walk where we walked around and looked at all collages without discussing the cards. I found that most of my cards were less intricate than those of the people that were there. That was not surprising.

I think I might have done more complicated backgrounds if I did not have to fussy cut the images. Perhaps I make fussy cutting something that I do more often so I can have those images ready to go. I also found myself wanting to use my markers to add things to the images - I don't know if that was allowed or not, so I didn't do it, but one of my cards (especially) needs just a little bit of manipulation to make it comfortable for me. If I decide to go back to another experience, I will know a bit more to ask about, and I will bring some of my own supplies.

I also wonder if these cards could be a basis for my personal songwriting or improvisation practice. Things to think about as I keep making cards for my deck.

All in all, this was a creative weekend.

I like it when I find things that take me out of my comfort zone and place me into a period of questioning, and the workshop yesterday did that.

Anyway, I am going to head into my day here at home. I have found a system for filming during Creativity Camp this next month. I have four more tasks on my work planner, and I am going to figure out the next TME ideas for sing about the ocean which is coming soon! Time to get moving...

Please check out my TPT store in the links above. I do strive to keep my resources at a low price point so music therapists can find ideas for less money to help stretch budgets. Thanks for your support. See you tomorrow!!
