Monday After Break

It is the first day after Spring Break, and I have torn myself away from my bed and to the computer. I will be taking a shower here in a bit before heading to work, stopping to get gasoline on the way. I will see five groups of students and one individual before doing bus duty and then returning here to collapse into my bed. My knees are still hurting after kneeling on the floor to do behavior management training and CPR during the professional development day that we had just before we left for break. This means that I will not be moving much until my knees are no longer hurting.

The first day after a break is usually pretty smooth because students are glad to be back. The second day after a break is usually pretty rough because none of us want to be back. I am hoping that today goes smoothly because I have lots that I need to get done in between session times. They have hired my successor, so I need to get my things out of the storage space as soon as possible. I have made a good start, but things are not out as much as I need them to be at this point in the school year.

I have counted the weeks left in my contract.

I am not trying to get caught up in the time left because that feels like I am switching my focus from my current job to the future. I still have time to work as a therapist, and my current students deserve my continued focus and dedication up until the very last day. So, as I am cleaning things out of my storage area and making things more organized for the next music therapist, I am also trying my best to focus on the clients in front of me and doing what I think is best practices for them.

For the next several weeks, I will try my best not to continuously talk about retiring, but it is the biggest thing to happen in my life at the moment, so I cannot make any promises.

So, let's change the topic yet again.

This week is going to be Musicians of the Month and leisure options for one set of groups. We are going to play games and sing silly songs in my other groups. I want to find some ways to incorporate games for some of my students who do not engage in group activities very well, but I do not have those plans formalized yet. Fortunately, I have finished my documentation for the sessions before break, so I can focus on session strategizing when I arrive this morning.  Well, after an entire week's worth of irrelevant emails are sorted, deleted, and figured out. Most "communication" is not relevant to me and most of the information that I want to know about is not shared with me the way I want it to be shared. Oh well. That seems to be typical for just about any job that I have ever held. Working for myself might be a better fit for me. We will see.

Anyway, it is time to get back into my work routine. See you tomorrow?
