Sunday Song: Black Horse and the Cherry Tree
One of my quests for this year is to rip all of my CDs (yep, I still have CDs) onto my computer so I have the music in digital form without having to stream. So, I have been ripping CDs and listening to more music lately. I have realized that music has been missing from my life lately...
Now, let me clarify because I am musicking all the time with my clients, but I have not been engaging in music for me lately. I listen to what my clients want to hear, not what I need in my own musical journey.
So, part of this quest is to remind me of music for me.
I was asked why I still have all of my CDs, and the simple reason is that I paid good money for all of these, and I don't want to give them away! I will keep them for as long as I possibly can!
As I was listening and ripping and appreciating the music I have collected over the years, I have started to select songs for specific reasons (because I am a music therapist and goals are ALWAYS things that I think about - even for myself). One of the playlists that I am thinking about is "Songs that Fill Me With Joy and Energy." I have several songs already on that list, but one that I ripped this week was "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" sung and written by KT Tunstall from her debut album, Eye to the Telescope, released in 2004.
I love this song for the rhythmic elements and KT Tunstall's vocal timbre. The words are a bit difficult to interpret, but KT states that the song is about making choices when facing difficult situations. I just like the song and feel a jump in my energy levels when I listen to it.
I also like the whoo-hoos that happen.
What songs do you currently love? What songs are always your favorites?
I was listening to a burned CD that I entitled "All Time Favorites" way back, and I agreed with my selections, even now. The songs that are on that CD are some of my all time favorites, but one CD cannot contain them all!
That's the benefit of streaming. I have a playlist called "MJL Favorites" that I use at work when I need to listen to music for me. It has over 180 songs on it. I love to shuffle that playlist so I never know what is going to be played next.
Even though streaming is convenient, I am going to keep going with my CD ripping and burning. There is something that I enjoy about making shorter playlists and then taking them to places where I can hear music without having to have wi-fi connections. (I have difficulty trusting wi-fi connections.)
So, book #2 of my CD collection is finished. Today, I want to put the CDs back into the case (in alphabetical order, by the way) and get #3 downstairs to start ripping the next batch of CDs.
I might play my Energy playlist, adding songs as they show up.
