Stream of Consciousness Saturday?? Probably Not...

I am still brainstorming potential themes for my future blogging. It is not really something that I am devoting lots of time towards, but the thoughts are percolating a bit as I continue to do what I usually do. Having themes is not really all that important, but it does help me organize my thoughts when I am sitting at the computer, wondering what to write about. Without a theme, I tend to act like I am trying to figure out what to eat for dinner.

It is hot here, so I am not going to leave my house today. I am going to spend time clearing out some boxes in my bedroom so I can navigate easily after abdominal surgery in nine days. My hospital bag is packed with clothing and charging cables. Mom's bed is made and ready for her. I still need to clean the kitchen - I always have good intentions that flop miserably when I actually walk into the kitchen. I have the fixins for my grandma's chili, so I will stir up a big pot of that to eat this week.

I am still slogging through Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. The language just annoys me, so I have returned to the conclusion that I made back in high school when my peers were gushing about Austen and the Bronte sisters - this form of literature is just not my favorite! I have ten new library books waiting for me to dive in, but I am determined to finish S and S before I go to another book. I managed to read 12 pages yesterday before I gave up again. Unfortunately, I still have 123 pages to go!!

I have never enjoyed this type of literature, and I do not like Hemingway or Steinbeck either - for completely different reasons. I try to read a book that I should have read in high school but didn't for many different reasons every year. I have now read a long list of educational favorites that did not make it onto my required reading lists when I was in elementary, junior, and senior high schools. We didn't read the usual classics or things that many other people say they have read. I don't know why, but my teachers did not follow the typical reading list of the times, so I missed out on books like The Catcher in the Rye, or Fahrenheit 451, or Animal Farm, or Where the Red Fern Grows. I try my best to read something from the list that I have collected over the years every season, but I do not always make it. I am more interested in contemporary fiction of all kinds - I don't enjoy Austen, so reading this book is a chore rather than a pleasure. After it is over, I will be able to say that I have read it. There you go.

There are eight other Austen novels in the compendium that I have. I will try to slog through as many of them as I can, but I can tell you that they will have to wait until I read some more books in between my forays into Austen land.

The sun is starting to come up over my roof and shine on the house in my backyard. It is going to be another hot day here. Tomorrow will also be hot - lots of heat advisories going on as we hit our first summer weather - on the second day of summer, no less. I want to spend some time upstairs and then head downstairs to sleep in the coolness of my basement. I also want to clean up my craft spaces so my Mom can find what she wants to use when she comes here. I know she wants unfettered access to the glue gun...

I made some progress on the next edition of sing about songs. I have an outline, a template, and all the ideas set up. I just need to work on the content, and then I will be ready to release everything.

In between writing these paragraphs, I have managed another 10 pages of S and S. The biggest problem that I am having right now is that most of the six hour program that I watched recently with my family has already happened in the 63 pages. WHAT HAPPENS FOR THE REMAINING 112 PAGES!! I will continue to read, and I will continue to try to understand this writer and why these particular stories are revered by many - just not me.

Happy Saturday, right?? It is Saturday, isn't it?
