Tuesday Themes
This is going to be a thematic post - all about themes, and my current theme is "Back to School." I spend lots of moments during this time of year hearing about classroom themes (my sister's classroom is going to be amazing, y'all), watching classroom organization videos, thinking about my own room (which doesn't really change all that much), and seeing the decor that is generated by many people in the music education world.
There are some teachers out there (cough, cough sissa!) who make everything match or work within their creative themes. My room has muraled walls, so there is not much room for things to put on the walls. Also, my clients like to rip things from the wall and destroy them, so I don't want to spend time and money replacing decorations over again. So, I tend to keep the decorations things that I can move to and fro in the group area rather than on the walls.
That doesn't mean that I don't have ideas about themes. Ooh boy, do I have ideas.
I love stars. They are my favorite shape, stories, and things to look at. If I had a classroom where I knew that my decor would be safe as well as functional, I would do stars. Forever and ever.
I mean, think of all the possibilities when you use a theme for decoration. Star puns on the walls. Stars hanging from the ceiling and on the bulletin boards (both of which cannot be done in my current room - the ceiling is 20 feet high and there are no bulletin boards). Star things everywhere! (I kept stars as the theme for the biggest bedroom in my home.) Stars to highlight student work and stars to provide inspiration. I would love it all.
I might make some star shaped visuals today. I have to take a shower, make the bed, clean the sheets, and other home chores today, but I could make some star shaped visuals. I have all the ingredients for what I am thinking about - I just have to put them together. I could do both color and black and white visuals.
A project!! Hooray!
Tomorrow is my next medical procedure - a scan to make sure that nothing has moved from the gut that was diseased into other parts of my body. We suspect that nothing moved, but we have to make sure just the same. So, I am in need of projects to occupy my brain and body today.
Come to think of it, I maneuvered the entire school to use STARS as our PBIS theme, I convinced the pods to name themselves after celestial objects, and I continue to use stars to affect change and situations at work. Mwa-ha-ha!
The ideas are coming fast and furious, so I am on my way into creation. See you tomorrow.
(I'll post things when I finish my stars and put them in my TPT store!!)
