Graduation

My regular therapy year is now over. "That" client behaved wonderfully in music therapy yesterday, and today is graduation day at my school.

It is scheduled to storm, which is typical for graduation day, but we gave up on the idea of having an outdoor ceremony MANY years ago since it kept storming on graduation day.

Two principals ago, administration insisted that we go outside, but storms kept that from happening. The current administration is perfectly happy to have the ceremony inside which is more than fine with me. I cannot figure out how to run electrical lines across wet grass safely, and I don't really want to have to do so.

That is neither here nor there since we have FINALLY come to a mutual understanding that outside is not the place for graduation.

We will celebrate our students today. We have ten young adults who are either aging out of our services or are moving from children's services to transition services. Some will stay with us for the next several years and others will be leaving by the end of June. It is always a bittersweet time in the school year, but it is rarely a complete goodbye.

I will run microphones and music from my computer. I will make sure that people can be heard and then will hide in my corner to facilitate my part of the ceremony. I tried to get a choir going, but then we had immense issues with that part of the school, so I was unable to get started on singing together in between the conflicts. It was a bit more important to get classrooms running smoothly than singing.

Some of our students will stride down the aisle with all sorts of confidence while others will twirl and yet others will cover their ears and slink. They will be greeted by enthusiastic cheers and tears from family members and staff and classmates alike. We will have some short speeches and then - what everyone will be waiting for - cupcakes!!

After we clean up for graduation, we will set up for the end of the school year bash that happens tomorrow. I will be running the photo booth, so I will need to make a backdrop after graduation is finished. I am moving from one project to the next these days. I have coordinated a photo treasure hunt because we found out that our bash was going to be shorter in duration than we originally planned. I am hoping that someone has purchased the snacks that are the treasure at the end of the hunt. If not, someone will have to head out to the store tomorrow because I have not been asked to purchase the treats...

I have three days of work left before break. After those three days of work, I will have two days where I can clean my house more before my family arrives. Some are driving and others are flying, so my Sunday will be spent ferrying folks and then waiting for folks to arrive. The next day is my procedure prep day, so my guests will have food while I get to enjoy a clear liquid diet before cleaning out my innards. Tuesday is my procedure - I am hoping for the easy option rather than the complicated one, but I am preparing for the complicated one, just in case. After the procedure is over, I will be able to participate in family stuff rather than medical stuff.

It is time to get going on my day. I have decided to take things easy this morning, so I am a bit later than usual to write, shower, and get in my car for my commute. I will still arrive at work time, but I am going to be later than I usually am for my day. No music therapy sessions for two weeks. I am ready for the break.

Time to get going to celebrate the accomplishments of some of my students today.
