What I'm Reading: Kindle
Happy Christmas and Hanukkah morning to those who celebrate, and happy Wednesday to everyone else!
I am awake at 4:12 am, waiting for my mother to wake up and my sister to arrive before we start our celebration. I am sitting here, watching Ghosts on my Kindle, and am thinking about why I got a Kindle to begin with.
I do not like reading books on my Kindle better than reading actual books. I love actual books, but the Kindle offers me something that I desperately need - connection and entertainment during my commutes.
This may sound funny, but I do not listen to the radio when I drive. I do, however, need something to be filling the sound environment while I am driving. To fill the soundscape, I used to use my iPod. When that fell apart (literally - it is still operable but is only hooked together by some wires), I needed a replacement that I could afford. iPads were out of the question. I cannot justify spending more than $150 on a commuting tablet that I will end up loading with television shows and movies and drop on the floor quite often.
I did my research because that is what I always do. I liked the idea of getting the iPad for things like Procreate, but I just could not justify the cost. Also, I do not get along with iThings - we do not think alike, so something iThing is not the best idea for me. I had an iPod because there was nothing else at the time.
Enter the Kindle Fire into my little world. I bought it for the video capability, but I have used the actual book application as well. I have grown to enjoy using my Kindle for reading at various times. It is great for times like this. I did not pack any books for this trip, but my Kindle is packed with (mostly) free books and book collections. I have more than enough to fill my time. Hundreds of books in a device that is no bigger than a paperback book.
I am currently reading a cozy mystery series. I have become a fan of cozy mysteries since getting a Kindle. They feature non-violent descriptions of crimes and then a heroine who is able to figure it all out - usually with the aid of a handsome police officer or an animal.
This particular mystery series is 32 stories long, and I am just over halfway through. I am getting ready to abandon it for another book because I am not enjoying it any longer. I will go back to it eventually, but it is time for a break.
Well, time to go back to our celebration - Mom is stirring. She hasn't turned on any lights yet, but I can hear her sneezing. Do we sneeze when we are asleep? I would think so, but I would also think that the act of sneezing would wake us up. Hmmmm. That is something I might need to Google. I went down a rabbit hole about how much a human leg weighs several years ago, so I know that this rabbit hole will have an answer out there somewhere.
At this very moment, I am using my Kindle to stream things rather than to read, but that is one of the things that I like about it. I can do that! I also have lots of memory added to keep all the things that I want to have at my fingertips. I am working on finding a good alternative to ProCreate so I can draw and make things like stickers (dream of mine). I haven't found it yet, but I still try.
Time to get going with our day. It should be pretty here today. We have our traditional cookies and our non-traditional meal to experience. My sister, Mom, and I will do our new traditions while honoring some of our old traditions.
Today is the fourth anniversary of my cat's passing. I miss her every day. My sister still asks me if I am ready for a new one, but I am not sure that I am. I will spend a bit of time celebrating the love, challenges, and companionship that she brought into my life today, but I will also be looking towards the future.
Time to get going. Happy Wednesday, all!!
