Being an Internship Director: There Is a Countdown...

So, I figured out how many years, months, and days I have until I am eligible for retirement. Spoiler alert - I intend on retiring from my current job when I am able to do so because my body is getting old, and I want to be able to enjoy my retirement. So, I am going to retire in a bit (we're still talking about years here, folks, but it is less than five...), and I have to figure out when I can accept my last intern for this job.

I enjoy being an internship director - I mean, most of it - I hate telling applicants that they will not be at my program for their internships. That part stinks, but the rest is fun. There is something really fun about watching a music therapy student turn into a music therapist, and being an internship director means that I get a front row seat!

My next music therapy intern will be starting when our summer schedule starts on June 5th. I am getting some assignments ready for the intern for the week that I will be gond during the last week of our second summer session. We will be doing things differently this time because I have some ideas on how to help my interns prepare more for their futures.

Goodness. There isn't much time left to get things done. I have a month before I am welcoming the next intern to our facility.

I'm not sure if blogging in the afternoon is going to work. I am not thinking about anything right now.

Things about being an internship supervisor... things about being an internship supervisor... things about being an internship supervisor... c'mon brain. Let's get into gear.

I guess I'm a bit out of practice with the idea of being an internship supervisor these days. I've been the only music therapist in my facility since the middle of February. I have been enjoying the solo gig but am ready to be part of a team again. There is something nice about doing music therapy all by myself, but I do enjoy watching interns go through the steps of their development as therapists.

What am I looking forward to the most? Getting to know the intern and how they work. I like watching them move from a bundle of nerves into a confident session leader. So, intern #36 is on the way and will be arriving on June 5th to find a relatively clear office space and a new desk!! (Don't tell the other 35!!)

Time to call my Mom and then my sister. See you all tomorrow afternoon...
