Monday Musings - It Has Been a Long Night
I had an insomnia night last night.
Now, usually I am a good sleeper. In the past couple of years, my sleep schedule has been shifting, mainly due to hot flashes, but I usually sleep for a long time, then get up to use the bathroom and cool down, and then I fall back to sleep. Last night was one of my rare exceptions.
Last night, I slept from about 8:30 until 10:30. I woke up and went to use the bathroom and that was it! My body no longer wanted me to actually sleep, even though I was tired as all get out. I think I dozed a bit between 2 and 3:47, but I am not sure. My eyes were gritty and wanted to close, but my mind was alert and ready to go. I avoided my usual inability to think around 4am on these days somehow, and I am still pretty alert. I know that I will be crashing this afternoon after things are done in my music therapy clinic. I may just plan on reading my current music therapy book and working on my visual aid system for the prep time that I have on Monday afternoons. I need tasks that I can do without having to think too much.
This is a 44-hour workweek at my facility. We work an extra half day on Wednesdays once per month. Since I have another job on Wednesdays, I work extra hours every day of the week until I hit the 44 hour expectation. These weeks are the weeks where I actually get credit for the amount of time that I am actually at my job every single day. I usually work 9 hour days to accommodate the 8.5 hour days that I ask my interns to do so they can get their hours finished in 7 months instead of 9 months. I need a bit of time before interns arrive so I can get myself organized. I also do not feel like it is appropriate to require interns to stay until 4pm if I leave at 3:15, so I work when they work plus an extra half hour per day. This is one of the weeks where I get credit for that extra time.
I have no idea what we are going to do in music therapy this week, except for the fact that Kansas Day is this Saturday, so we can do some Kansas state symbols and sing the state song. I know where those visual aids are because I inventoried them last week (Score for the Visual Aid SYSTEM!! - worth the time and effort already!). I'll bring out the Home on the Range lyric sheets and the Mad-Lib to use with various groups. That will fill up my sessions on Wednesday-Friday, but I still need things to do in the Monday-Tuesday groups. I will find things that are less visual-intensive for these first groups. We have spent lots of time listening to music and curating playlists lately, so I am in the mood for something else. Perhaps we will play games...hmmm.
I also have the digital resource that I made for this month - centered around cooperation. I haven't started next month's resource - I need to get going on that. We could use that, if I can't come up with anything else to music about with my clients. I like to keep those in reserve for days when I have little to no energy which may be today once I get to work. We will see what an hour long drive in the pre-dawn morning will do to my energy level.
For now, though, I am ready to seize this day!
I have three group sessions and one individual to see today. I have some administrative internship tasks to do - time to start giving session responsibilities to my intern (starting next week), and reviewing her first batch of assignments. I also have other tasks to do on my visual aid system task list - sorting visuals into specific storage is one of those tasks.
Eeeeps! I just looked at the clock, and I have to go! See you tomorrow for TME Tuesday!
