Tuesday at Teachers Pay Teachers: My Day at School
Some of my clients just understand what it is we are doing if I present it in a visual format. Others do not, but some need the visual input to figure out what it is I am singing about, so I use visuals for many of my therapeutic music experiences (TMEs). Now, I don't always have the money to spend on other files on Teachers Pay Teachers (great source for visuals of ALL sorts). As a result, I often make my own visuals and then post them on TPT so that other people can use them. Also, it is not all that common to find too much centering around my client's goal of moving through a schedule with little to no anxiety, so I have to make my own visuals to supplement their particular needs.
The good thing is that I enjoy making visual aids. I always have, and I really like things much better now that I can laminate things without having to use Contact paper (long story there!). Tuesdays are now my days to show off what I have made and posted in my own TPT store - so that you can use what I develop with the clients that you have who have similar goals for music therapy.
Today's selection is "My Day at School."
Here are some of the pages and pieces that are included. Now, please know that the graphics that are part of this are not my work, but I am fully licensed to use these images and to share them as part of my work. The graphics files come from Scrappin Doodles - a wonderful clip art site that offers many options for graphics for creators. These glimpses into the file offers you a bit more information about what is included than folks usually get on TPT - the thumbnails are somewhat limited in scope.
This TME, centered around a book from Sesame Workshop, takes the questions in the book and encourages clients to think about their own school day - preparation, favorite things to do, rules to remember. There are options available to add in your own specifics (no one can anticipate every situation that every school student would encounter during every day, so there are blanks for each page). This could even be used as a reminiscence tool for others - can you remember your favorite lunch box??
As always, this file comes with an original song, composed by me for use with the visual aid. It is included in the file and yours to use - if you want to.
I have strayed from my usual format of file folders only for this file - I use it in a binder or small folder so I can store all the pieces together in one place. Each question page is laminated and then hole-punched so I can place it in the folder. The pieces are individually laminated and velcroed so clients can place them in the indicated spaces. Extra pieces are stored on the back of the question pages.
I do not have a finished product here at home, so I can't take pictures, but I can make one and eventually show you what it looks like in my clinic...
Anyway, this is a file in my Teachers Pay Teachers shop. It costs $3.50 USD and is available at anytime that you need it. Thanks for indulging me, and please check out the files that I have available for use. You never know when you might find something that works for you in your music therapy program.
