Tuesday at Teachers Pay Teachers: Music Notation Cards
Here it is, Tuesday again, and I am reeling after my Monday back at work. Today, however, is reserved for showing off products from my Teachers Pay Teachers store, so here it goes...
Introducing, Music Notation Cards!!
Okay, it's not all that exciting, but this is one of those things that I have found very useful in my life as a music therapist. I work with many adolescents who resist the thought of making any sort of music in a public manner who sit alongside those who feel that they are the next Billie Eilish - just waiting to be discovered in my music therapy clinic. I have found that having some non-sound related therapeutic music experiences (TMEs) can help coax those who do not want to engage in musicking to actually do something with me as their therapist. So, I have lots of games that I have adapted into TMEs for use with those types of students. These music notation cards form the foundation for some of these games.
As far as ideas go, this one is not the most complex of games in the world, but I do offer two different games to play with these cards. There are many more things that you could do with these sets, and I offer two versions - symbols only and words and symbols. There are also notes and rests cards. These cards can be the starting point for a semi-musical interaction with clients who do not want to make sounds or play instruments. Start a game of WAR with some preferred music in the background, and voila! Therapeutic interaction!!
I have made a couple of different sets of these, using different colored cardstock for each of the sets to help me with sorting. With four sets, I can engage an entire group of clients in separate games around the room - offering opportunities for social interaction in small groups. I use this as a center sometimes while others are working on other concepts. I also use this TME and visual when I need a quieter day in the music therapy room.
This file is priced at $2.00 USD and is available for digital download with your free membership to Teachers Pay Teachers and payment for the file. Let me know if you would be interested in seeing a video about how I use these cards with clients - or a "make it" video showing you how I make the cards.
Thanks for being here!!
