Mid-Week Ramblings of a Music Therapist

I'm very tired today. Yesterday started off on a very early note with me trying to figure out where I had placed things for my new intern (never found them, by the way - wonder where I placed the extra stapler and stuff). I got to work very early, did some cleaning, and then welcomed the newest intern to my facility.

For some reason, I am exhausted today. I woke up at 3 am (my latest "regular" time), and I just couldn't bring myself to get out of bed until later than usual. I'm now trying to write all this while coordinating my to-do list and figuring out breakfast and trying to jump start my brain into actual thoughts about music and therapy.

I got nothing.

Something that I've done recently is to schedule free intern webinars for current interns out there. We'll meet on Tuesday evenings to talk about topics that I think are important to share about and to discuss during internships. If you are interested, the link and description is below.

I will be spending some time today trying to coordinate other people into doing their tasks so that I can finish my own tasks for my intern. This has been the most challenging part of having interns back at my facility after a break. Everything about how we welcome interns has changed - it used to be really easy - sign them up, get them organized, and do everything myself. Now I have to wait on the schedules of others, I have to find people to find shirts, I have to spend time wondering if the information that I have is actually accurate (last time around, it wasn't. I ended up sending an intern to the place listed on the training calendar to find that they had changed everything but did not let me know!) Life was much simpler when I did everything - I knew what to do and who to talk to - nothing is the same, and it seems to change every three months to boot! So, I will be trying to coordinate these tasks so I can move forward in this training program.

I try to be okay with change, but I am finding that I am not really okay with bureaucracy, especially when it puts obstacles in my path to doing what I want. Change for change's sake is not needed - I go by the adage that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I have to get myself coordinated for today. I have to get gas for the car before heading down to work. I am waiting for the laundry to finish drying so I'll have clean uniform shirts, and I need to make a lunch to take with me. I'm thinking a meatloaf sandwich sounds pretty good. I have about 40 minutes left before I need to leave. I can do it.

Time to get going. Sorry about the rambling nature of this post, but here it is.

Happy Wednesday, all.
