The Last Day of Summer

Well, actually, it is not the official last day of summer - that happens with the autumnal equinox in September, but it is the last day of my summer. School inservices start tomorrow and kids start school on Monday. For me, the summer is over after today.

I am thinking that this is going to be a difficult transition. I haven't finished my jet-lag yet, and I am sleeping late still. This is not good for tomorrow's 4-5am alarm requirement. I simply cannot go to sleep at night and then I need to sleep more in the early morning hours. This is not like me at all.

I don't even have a good excuse like watching the Olympics. (Because I'm not watching the Olympics - I keep up via social media outlets.) I'm just going through my regular at-home routine; laundry, dishes, cooking, reading, working on things, projects, and tools for music therapists, cleaning things, and eating.

My school year routine starts tonight when I go back to my part-time job as a director of music for a small church. After that, the inservice days happen (ugh). There will be some sort of sexual harassment training, something about blood borne pathogens, and something about violence in the workplace during these two days. There will not be enough time to organize my material cabinets and coordinate my individual schedules, but there will be time to get started on those things.

Today, however, is not the day to ruminate on what will happen tomorrow. Today is a day to be enjoyed. I am going to make spinach lasagna (I tried yesterday but got a rotten egg instead) and will spend some time gathering things to take to my church job tonight and to my real job tomorrow. I am going to try a nap again (to see if it helps with the waking up process tomorrow) and maybe I'll make a cake - just because!

It is time to get back into a full-time music therapy routine.

My music therapy goals for this year? Glad you asked! (snark!)
  • continue to develop my "becoming a more research-informed clinician" process (especially since I am going to be presenting on it in November at the AMTA conference)
  • continue to develop theme-based packets for music therapists
  • make something new every week
  • make music just for me
  • develop my repertoire to represent different populations than the one I treat right now
  • finish my internship handbook for publication
  • continue to blog about music, therapy, and me...
Happy Last Day of Summer, all!
