Song Conversion Sunday: It's an Insect World

Oh my. It is time to finish up this month's song and make it into a therapeutic music experience. This particular song, which I found in The Flying Pig Campfire Song Book, had a very simple beginning, but I think it can be so much more!!

So, this will now become an information carrier for facts about insects. The melody, harmony, and basic song structure will remain the same, but there are going to be so many more facts offered than in the original song.

I think I will keep the original chorus as originally shared.

(It's a Small World)

It's a world of centipedes, a world of moths
It's a world of katydids, a world of wasps
There's so much that we share that it's time we're aware
It's an insect world

It's an insect covered world
It's an insect covered world
It's an insect covered world
It's an insect world

It's a world of beetles, a world of fleas
It's a world of caterpillars, a world of bees
In this world that we know there is so much to show
It's an insect world

The other verses, though, need to share some facts - more than the original song does. How's this for some new verses...

Insects have six legs, and an outer skeleton.
They are cold-blooded and get lots of work done.
Insects may seem like pests, but they do their jobs the best,
It's an insect world.

There are many different kinds of bugs
that eat plants or animals or even suck blood.
Some make sounds, some fly 'round,
Some creep and crawl on the ground.
It's an insect world.

This is still going to be a work in progress as I haven't really spent lots of time researching insects in the past week. The best thing about something like this therapeutic music experience is that you can adapt it to any type of topic to provide students with a musical mnemonic to assist with recall of specific information.

New song next week - and here are some of the websites that I've used to pull the little bits of information that I included here... Enjoy, music therapists!!
