Fun Friday: Clearing Space

I am getting ready for a home invasion - of sorts. The heating guy is coming to tune up my furnace before it is needed. This is a good service, and one that I really need. I planned it, so it is not a surprise, but still, it requires planning on my part. The biggest problem about all of this is that I have to be "on-call" until they fit me into their schedule. That makes me sit here, going through nervous work until they arrive. It is not the best situation to be in for me and my nervous system. In addition, I had to change my debit card, so this company has been calling and sending texts letting me know that the card that they have on file is no longer working. Each call and text just sends my nervous system into overload.

On the other hand, I have cut down a whole bunch of cardboard to use for making books this fall. I have moved things around downstairs to accommodate someone clomping around my space that does not know where to step, and I have moved some things from the office/craft space into the library room and the music therapy instrument room to get them out of the way of the technician. This is good as it makes the office/craft space less cluttered and bad because the library and music therapy instrument room are more cluttered.

I do not like having people in my home, but I am finding that it is essential to keep my home working well. So, I put up with it all. I have scheduled another appointment to have my water heater flushed out and the plumbing examined. So, someone else will be coming to visit. That's good use of this round of cleaning - two for one. At some point, someone will come to examine the electrical system - that's the only thing that I haven't had done by this company. I appreciate that they come around annually to service my various systems, but there is almost always a pitch involved along with this service.

Meanwhile, I am not sure if my lawn mower is coming today or not. I need to put a check on the door, just in case. Things are really wet today, so he may not arrive, but just in case...

Meanwhile, I want to do something other than clearing space. I felt bored with myself and my situation yesterday. The only thing that I did yesterday was host four interns in the first of the internship webinar series that I have done for many years. I took a break from these webinars, but I feel like they were a good way to give back to the profession, so they are up and running again. It was strange to introduce myself because my music therapy identity has changed so significantly in the past three months. This entire quarter has been one of unemployment and retirement. It is strange not to have a professional identity.

So, I have put in an application for music therapist for a long-term care facility. Who knows if anything will come of it, but I have taken a step towards becoming employed again.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

There you go.

Back to clearing things from my living space to make room for other people to come in...

See you tomorrow - probably...
