Sunday Song - That One Billie Eilish Song, You Know the One...

So...

I feel like I need to be totally transparent about something from the get-go of this particular series...

I am not good with identifying songs with their performers. I can't identify the song names, but I can almost always sing the song.

As I was trying to figure out what song to select for this series, I remembered being in a session last week, listening to a song by Billie Eilish. I really liked the lyrics to the song, but for the life of me, I cannot remember which song it was. I remember thinking, "that would be a great song for our self-awareness monthly theme," but I cannot find the words that I remember in the lyrics search that I am doing of Billie's songs. 

This is a common situation for me, but it's also common for my music therapy clients. We can remember things about songs but can't remember names or musicians. We spend lots of time engaged in clue hunting. I ask questions like, "Is the singer a man or a woman?" (I know, those aren't always the identified genders of the musicians, but my clients understand the differences between male and female voice timbres, so it helps. Sorry if that question offends.) We go through as many questions as we need before we find the song that we are looking for. We find it, more often than not, so I keep asking the questions that offer the information that I need.

The things that I remember clearly about this song is that the words could be easily used for a discussion about self-awareness and personal value. I also remember thinking, "She mumble-sings." (Judgement much, mj??) Being someone who was raised more classically, I tend to prefer singers who enunciate a bit more clearly, but Billie does Billie very well, so go, Billie, go!

I have now read as many of the lyrics to her playlist as I can, and I have not found the song that I am thinking about. It is very possible that this song was not Billie's afterall. If that is the case, then I have absolutely no idea where to even start my search. It will have to wait until tomorrow when I head back to my work playlists.

So, I'm thinking that this series may help me with my song naming challenge. We will see. I promise that I will do a bit more of my due diligence when it comes to linking songs with performers. I WILL WRITE THINGS DOWN so I can remember! Otherwise, this will not be a long-lived series.

So, my song for the week was one of the songs by Billie Eilish. I will do more next week, I promise.
