Thursday

So, it is Thursday again. I have four groups to see today and a job shadow visitor coming to spend the day with me. I am going to write a bit here before taking a shower and heading to work for this day. After today, I have three days off before going back to work for my last week of our extended school year. Then, 12 days off before the start of the regular school year.

Yesterday, I was sitting in a meeting of the "specialists" - AKA, all of us that do not have a homeroom but who see every single student in our school, and one of my co-workers mentioned a t-shirt that I was wearing. It was a gift from my dad - it features a music staff and a stylized cat drawing based on a treble clef. She said, "You always have the neatest shirts," and I realized that I did, and most of them come from either my sister or came from my dad before he passed away. I then got onto Amazon and bought two novelty t-shirts in his memory and in honor of my sister (who is very much alive!! In fact, she recommended one of the shirts!) That comment really made my day because it reminded me how much Dad enjoyed finding shirts for all of us - things that represented us to him.

This week has been a pretty good week, as far as music therapy goes. I heard about some behaviors of concern in the other specialties that are not present in music therapy for some reason. At the same time, there were some behaviors of concern that happened in my area that do not appear to be happening in other places. It is always interesting to hear what is going on with other interactions in the facility. I am pretty isolated in my music therapy room. We are all busy, and no one really goes to visit one another. As a result, it is easy to get involved in my own area and not really consider what goes on in adapted physical education or life skills training or horticulture education or in art therapy. Meetings do have a purpose, even if it is only about finding out what is happening other places.

My to-do list for this weekend is pretty sparse right now. It includes a movie (I think I will go see Fly Me to the Moon) and working in my library. I was talking to my sister about what I want to do in the library which includes new bookshelves and a bed frame for the twin bed. I have to take out the boxes of things I put into the closet and then measure the short ceiling in said closet so I can get some lumber for the bookshelves. I will not get started on the shelves themselves until next week during my break, but it will be good to figure out how many shelves I want so I can get the folks at my store to cut the boards. I also need to get a bunch of screws so I can finish that project.

Other than that, my time will be my own. I am looking forward to a bit of rest, but I also have some things that need attention. My desk is a shambles, the craft area is where I shoved a bunch of things from the floor downstairs, and one of my shelves fell off the wall (I am not a fan of Command strips), so that needs to be nailed to the wall. It is the shelf that holds my rolodex holders.

I wonder what else I will do this week. I think I will do my 30 minute stretches to make things move a bit more quickly. It is amazing to me how much I can get done when I focus on one thing for 30 minutes at a time. Right now, I am going to take my shower and get to work. This has been a week where I have worked more than I get paid to work, and the pattern will continue because I need to get my documentation finished before my visitor arrives at 8:30 am. After that time, I will have a group, a break, another group, a longer break, and then two groups before saying goodbye and heading to my last meeting of the week. Then, it's back home for the weekend!!
