#MusicTherapyCreator - Lapbook Progress

During the Music for Kiddos symposium on Friday, I started a lapbook template to make the creation of my lapbooks a bit more standardized. It is nothing fancy - it's just blocks at the moment, but it is a place to start. I have to tweak it a bit because my measurements did not quite fit the space available, but it is a start.

I am all about working smarter and not harder, and I have found that making templates are easy ways to streamline some of my creative processes. Having a structure to work with helps me work. For the lapbook, I have a template for pieces to put together into the books for different ideas and different themes.

To make things easier for me, I also print out things on sticker paper. It takes away the gluing step for the inner portions of the folder which is helpful.

So, I am going to keep working on this idea, even through other types of creativity and work.

I have made a pledge to myself that I am going to get to work on time this week. So, I have to work through my time anxiety and wait until 6:20 before I leave. This is very difficult for me. My family is NEVER on time. We are ALWAYS early! So, I will strive to remain here, typing away, until just before it is time to leave.

I have no idea what we are going to do in music therapy today, but I know that it will be more like what I did when I first arrived at the facility than what I have been doing lately. I am tired of doing my themes, so I am going to revert back to doing more singing and instrument play. I mean, duh. I have to sit down with my strategy planning pages (another system that helps me). I want to do things that are more therapeutic than educational right now.

The problem with this is staffing. Most of my problems right now are staffing problems. We cannot keep good staff for very long and constantly have new people entering and interrupting my work. I do not have time to tell people what to do in music therapy because the behaviors of concern have increased exponentially because there are new people in the space who do not know what to do in music therapy. It is never ending.

I made some steps towards making my post-retirement dreams come true. I established an LLC and will be getting the next steps done this week. I am a bit nervous about all of this, but I have started. There you go!

I have tomorrow off because of Veteran's Day. Why it is happening on a Tuesday, I don't know, but there you go. We get to take tomorrow off. My sister has today and tomorrow away from her school. It is a good thing to have time off, but we haven't had a Tuesday off before. It will be interesting to see what the week is like with a day off that is not near a weekend. Like I said, we haven't done this before. It will be interesting to see if they do it next year - it won't really matter to me because I will not be working at that particular school next year! I am going to retire at the end of this contract year!! Hooray!

That's the reason I started the LLC thingy. I want to make money from my music therapy experience and expertise, and getting the business firmly established is what I need to do to start off. There you go. Next step - the website revamp!!

That's enough for now. See you tomorrow.
