Presentation Proposal Season

It is that time of year again - presentation proposal season. Time to start thinking about what my fellow music therapists may want to hear about during conferences and on my website. I tend to coordinate lots of thoughts and proposals when planning for the national conference of the American Music Therapy Association, and those ideas form the basis of the CMTE courses that I offer over on musictherapyworks.com and for all of my other presentation proposals. I am bound and determined to finish up my proposals and send them off this weekend, so I am taking some time to start looking at my archives to see what my brain settles on.

This year, I am attempting something that I haven't done very often. I am thinking about submitting a presentation for a non-music therapy conference. This is the presentation proposal that makes me the most uneasy because I am not exactly sure what to speak about to this group of eclectic clinicians. Being accepted means a trip to California in October though, so I will definitely submit some sort of idea. 

The rest of my opportunities are music therapy based, of course.

These are just some of the things that I've presented over the years. I've also presented on developing online materials, lots of TME development ideas, and lots on internship programs. My favorite things to share are TME ideas because that's what I want from a conference - some cool new things to share with my clients when I am finished with all of it!

Let me know if anything in the list above looks interesting to you. I am also thinking about doing something with the exhibit hall - maybe. That's a bit scary for me - moving from sharing to selling things... maybe this is the time for this step into courage.

    I would appreciate anything that has to do with adolescent TMEs and supervision. I also like the one about more music therapy with less therapist work! I can't wait until you get more online CMTEs available.

Sing A Song Sunday - The Time Change Song (Fall)

It's the time of year where most of us here in the states get to fall back one hour. This is a wonderful time as it gives us a chance to get an extra hour of sleep and to reset our internal clocks to be in sync with the earth's rotation a bit more than we are during the summer. I love this time of year and really dread moving to Daylight Savings in the Spring. Today' song is directed towards choir members and can be found here . Being An Internship Director: Why I Do Very Little Active Recruitment

I am not someone who participates in every single internship fair or makes ads for my internship program to put on social media. I do not feel an obligation to anyone to fill all of the openings that I have every year. I operate on a "if you build it, they will come" type of viewpoint. I figure that the interns who are meant to be with me will find me. As a result, I do very little active recruitment. I will be part of the AMTAS Virtual Internship Fair this upcoming Sunday. I am not really expecting too many applications coming from this meeting, but I am interested in how it is going to be run. I decided to sign up because I want to see what others are doing and offering out there. So, this Sunday, I will be sitting in front of my computer, listening to what others share about their internships. Dear AMTA

Dear American Music Therapy Association: I am debating long and hard about remaining in this relationship. I have been in this relationship since college, and this is not a decision that I am taking lightly or without great cost.  I am not happy with what you are bringing to this relationship. Now, I have been a selfish partner over the past several years - mainly because I am not feeling like we share a common mission anymore. It is easy for me to place the blame on you, but I know that this is not all on me. I have tried to be invested in communication and support and understanding, but everyone comes to a time where enough is enough.
