I'm So Excited, and I Don't Have to Hide It!!

I finished something this week - something that I've been developing and working on (on and off) for 25 years! It's official, and I can start talking about it right now! So I am!

I am launching an online continuing music therapy education course on July 20th!!

This is my first such course, and I am so excited about it that I can barely sit still. I have been generating course material and modules for the last year, and I finally took the final step towards making this a reality - and it IS! Here's hoping that others will find it interesting.

My first course is called "Composition and Creativity." The launch date is July 20th, and I will post about this course on that day, showing off the new website design and offering this course to the greater music therapy world.

Here's how it works.

Sign up for the course and select the modules that are most relevant to you. Watch the video, complete the demonstration element, submit that element, and do the next module. Complete all the modules that you want and get your certificate. I think it's an easy system - what do you think?

"Composition and Creativity" includes information and exercises on making things for music therapy, on composing songs, on writing therapeutic music experiences, on linking all interventions to goals, and on linking goals to all interventions. These are the topics that I love to talk to others about, so why not offer them all at the same place?

It's finally here, and it's time to share! I'll be working on the website later today, and I'm hoping to get things completely ready to launch as soon as I can!

Sing A Song Sunday - The Time Change Song (Fall)

It's the time of year where most of us here in the states get to fall back one hour. This is a wonderful time as it gives us a chance to get an extra hour of sleep and to reset our internal clocks to be in sync with the earth's rotation a bit more than we are during the summer. Being An Internship Director: Why I Do Very Little Active Recruitment

I am not someone who participates in every single internship fair or makes ads for my internship program to put on social media. I do not feel an obligation to anyone to fill all of the openings that I have every year. I operate on a "if you build it, they will come" type of viewpoint. I figure that the interns who are meant to be with me will find me. As a result, I do very little active recruitment. I will be part of the AMTAS Virtual Internship Fair this upcoming Sunday. I am not really expecting too many applications coming from this meeting, but I am interested in how it is going to be run. I decided to sign up because I want to see what others are doing and offering out there. So, this Sunday, I will be sitting in front of my computer, listening to what others share about their internships. Dear AMTA

Dear American Music Therapy Association: I am debating long and hard about remaining in this relationship. I have been in this relationship since college, and this is not a decision that I am taking lightly or without great cost.  I am not happy with what you are bringing to this relationship. Now, I have been a selfish partner over the past several years - mainly because I am not feeling like we share a common mission anymore. It is easy for me to place the blame on you, but I know that this is not all on me.
